Sneaker Con Vancouver Recap 2020

February 29, 2020, saw the return of Sneakercon, one of the biggest travelling sneaker shows in the world and Vancouver’s largest sneaker and streetwear event. Dubbed as “the greatest sneaker show on earth,” the one-day event returned to Vancouver for the second year in a row, drawing in vendors from all across the world. 

The show first began in New York in 2009 on a much smaller scale. Conversations on message boards, shoe trades, and meetings at sneaker stores would take place between a small, tight-knight community. Fast forward more than 10 years later and the event has spiked in popularity, drawing crowds in cities across North America and overseas. 

Hundreds of sneaker and streetwear fanatics of all ages attended the show looking to buy, sell, and trade pieces of their collection. 

One of the biggest names in attendance for Sneakercon Vancouver was none other than Jaysse Lopez, better known as Two Js Kicks. Lopez. He is the founder of Urban Necessities, a sneaker and streetwear consignment store with locations in Las Vegas and New York. 

Another big name returning to this year’s event was BannedLA, a community created for people to buy, sell, and trade sneakers. They’re also well known for their line of streetwear and this year, STAY FRESH once again had the opportunity to collaborate with Banned LA. We released a limited run of purple-and-yellow t-shirts and green-and-yellow hoodies (you can check them out here) with a spiralling design. 

The design represents the constant change and shift in today’s culture, including the movement in reselling, style, and fashion. Sometimes, it’s easy to feel fatigued or lose track of the constant trends and products that are being released. 

We also had the chance to interview Eric HB Park, one of the brand’s founders. Park sat down with STAY FRESH to talk about growing trends in SoCal, his take on sneaker and streetwear culture in Vancouver, and some big moves that the brand has planned in 2020. 

Attendees also had the chance to check out our full installation at the event which was on our most unique to date. 

Eric also hosted a sneaker conversation panel with Aleix, Owner and Co-Founder of STAY FRESH. Not to mention, we had the chance to give out a pair of the brand new Jordan 1 High Pine Green to a lucky winner. 

As far as sneakers go, there was no shortage of rare or coveted kicks at the event. Some of the rarest shoes that could be found included the Nike Mag, the Nike Dunk SB Low Heineken, the CLOT x Nike 1World Air Force 1, the Fragment Jordan 1, and the Trophy Room Jordan 5. 

There was plenty of recently-released, high-demand heat like the Nike Travis Scott SB Dunk Low and even the Korea-exclusive G-Dragon Paranoise Air Force 1. 

There were also tons of Yeezys to be found, from multiple colourways of the 350 V2, the Wave Runner and Inertia 700, the Yeezy 700 V3 Azael, even several pairs of the Nike Air Yeezy 2 in the Red October and Pure Platinum colourway. 

Sneakercon also had tons of streetwear, with everything from Supreme and Bape hoodies to vintage and thrift vendors. 

Another highlight of the event was the trading pit, which was quickly filled up with the different shoes and streetwear that attendees brought to sell and trade from their collection.
